Using the IDOL Academy

This page is a "quick start" guide for the IDOL Academy LMS.

Library

When you first log into IDOL courses, you begin at your "Library".  The Library shows the IDOL courses to which you have subscribed, and the other courses offered by IDOL.

Note that some courses have an accompanying "Resources" course.  The Resources course may include things like workshop recordings, podcast recordings, templates mentioned in the main course or discount programs available to you.  Putting these resources in a separate course allows us to include them for you but still keep the main course organized an
d uncluttered.

Dashboard

When you choose "View Course" from the library, you come to the "Dashboard" for the course.  This page gives a description of the course, and a menu of the categories and lessons available.

The Dashboard view has two links just under the header (circled in red on the image at the right):  Categories and Announcements

Categories - provides a view of the lesson categories with a short description of each.

Announcements
- is just what you would expect, announcements made to the Academy students.

Navigation

Within IDOL Academy most navigation is done using the menu on the left.  The menu shows lessons organized by category.

It does not stand out much, but in the menu the current lesson is  bold (red arrow on left side of image)

You can also navigate to the previous and next lesson using the arrow buttons (labeled as 1 and 2 on the image)

When you finish a lesson (the video has played to the end), you have the option to go right to the next lesson (labeled as 3 on the image)

Lessons

Lesson materials are often available for you to save to your computer.  These will be listed under the "Downloads" list (labeled 1 on the image)

You can mark lessons as Favorite by clicking the start icon (labeled 2 on the image).  These lessons will be marked by a star in the menu - an example is shown next to the red arrow in the image.

In most cases, when you complete the video for the lesson, the lesson is automatically marked as "Completed" (labeled 3 on the image).  There are a few lessons where this is not enabled - for those you can mark the lesson complete by clicking the "Complete Lesson" button (labeled 3 on the image)
