Academy Coaches and Mentors
Coaches and Mentors are Academy alumni who have met their (initial) IDOL goals and have been invited to support the academy members in a more formal way.
Coaches are task-based - they help members improve by pointing out specific ways that an asset can be improved. They are “performance driven” - they focus on immediate improvement of the current asset.
Mentors are relationship-based - though they might work on specific competencies and goals, the approach is to develop a rapport based on respect and trust. Mentors are “development driven” - they share their own experience in order to positively influence the professional growth of their mentee.
What’s the Difference Between Mentoring and Coaching? | Learning Solutions Magazine
The main difference is that Mentors hold weekly office hours (during the 8 weeks of each cohort) and provide accountability to members. Coaches review and provide personalized feedback on member assets. Both groups are active in community discussions and may host workshops from time to time.
Coaches and Mentors are also listed on the Overview of How the Program Works lesson page. If you want to contact a coach or mentor directly, the best way is to reach out through the Academy Facebook group.

Monica Giannobile Hello! I'm a marketer-turned-IDOL with a M.S.Ed. in learning design and technology from Purdue. I currently work as a senior learning systems professional at Humana, and I am particularly interested in helping people feel good about themselves and motivated to take action. I try to imbue a sense of community, celebration and reflection into the IDOL mentoring sessions that I facilitate. If any of this resonates with you, I encourage you to try a session and see if it's a good fit for you as you work toward your goals :) |
